- Our Story - 

The shop was first created in 1974, by Robert Moehlman.

​

Moehlman started the hobby in his basement of his home, before creating Big River Popcorn with three flavors: Butter, Cheese, and Caramel Corn. The shop became a staple in downtown Burlington, Iowa.

​

The business was sold in 1981 to new owners, and over the following year, new flavors were introduced. 

​

Greg Flietner, who is Moehlman grandson, gained ownership of the business in 2016.

​

Under the ownership of Greg Flietner, Moehlman's grandson, we've expanded our offerings and embraced the online world, delivering our delicious popcorn to all 50 states. Join us and experience why our slogan, “So Corny We’ll Make You Pop!” captures the joy of our popcorn.​

After selling Big River Popcorn in 2024 to a local Burlington, IA family, we’ve expanded to Minneapolis to share our signature flavors with even more popcorn lovers. Whether it’s for a wedding reception, fundraiser, or special event, we’re dedicated to crafting flavors that remind you of cherished moments and beloved treats from your past.
